Recent reports from the Blytheville Police Department:

Mrs. Henrietta Orene Penney, 95, of Marmaduke, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Evergreen Health and Rehab in Rector.

Mrs. Dorothy Estelle Jones Francis, longtime resident of Blytheville and Sherwood, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, in Rogers.

Mr. Dustin Ray Brady, 37, of Manila, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his home.

It's been a week since Blytheville voters OK'd a 1-cent sales tax to bail out the city from its multi-million dollar debt to the Internal Revenue Service. I've heard it said more than a couple of times that the tax was the "easy way out" for Mayor James Sanders and the City Council.

The Supreme Court appeared ready Tuesday to say anew that young people who commit even the most brutal crimes should not be punished as harshly as adults.

During its Tuesday night meeting, the Blytheville City Council moved to adopt a resolution regulating the removal of trash and other materials from private properties.

Pending validation from a constitutional attorney, the Quorum Court of Mississippi County will be voting next Tuesday night on moving $2.5 million from the economic development tax fund into the county general fund.

Mr. Horace "Arnold" Hicks, 77, of Blytheville, went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, March 11, 2012, from the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
