Carrie Jewell Mays, 78, of Manila, passed from this life Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Daughter of the late Blain and Cleo Loveless Turney, she was born in Russellville and raised in Dell. She was a graduate of Dell High School. She was a homemaker for many years before becoming a paraprofessional for Manila Public Schools. Carrie was a member of Blackwater Church of God and she loved puzzles, her cats, Christmas, gardening, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Turney, Rufus Turney and L.G. Turney, and two sisters, Mildred Aycock and Shirley Waldrep.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Danny Lee Mays of the home; four sons, Tony Wagner (Crystal) of Augsburg, Nathan Mays (Dawn) of Bald Knob, Lee Mays (Monica) and Erick Mays (Kathy), both of Sikeston, Mo.; two daughters, Nikki Hodges (Denny) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Tammy Carpenter (Brandon) of Sikeston, Mo.; two brothers, Larry Turney (Freida) and Lonnie Turney (Kathi); two sisters, Elaine Middleton (Jerry) and Susie Parker (Sammy); 15 grandchildren, Blaine Wagner (Samantha), Seth Wagner, Lucy Wagner, Denver Hodges, Libby Mays, Levi Mays, Elijah Mays, Jacob Mays, Jordan Mays (Cassandra), Jason Mays, Heather Mays, Jeremy Abney, Destiny Carter, Paige Mays and Brian Mays. Carrie also leaves 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Reverend Donnie Riley officiating, assisted by Linda Brewer. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Blaine Wagner, Seth Wagner, Levi Mays, Jeremy Abney, Brian Mays and Jeff Costner.
