Rebecca Christine Veach

Rebecca Christine Veach, 51, of Natchitoches, La., former Manila resident, passed from this life Thursday, Oct. 24, at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. Born in Northridge, Calif., she was the daughter of T.J. Shamon and the late Alice Sue Alexander Jorn. Rebecca had lived much of her life in Walnut Ridge and was a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School. She had also lived several years in West Plains, Mo., as well as central and northwest Arkansas, but always considered Manila her home. She had been a resident of Natchitoches for the past four years. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Manila. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Simpson, and her stepfather, Gene Jorn.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Mike Veach of Natchitoches, La.; one daughter, Shelby Grace Veach of Natchitoches; her father, T.J. Shamon of St. Genevieve, Mo.; five brothers, Ted Simpson of Heber Springs, A.J. Jorn of Monette, Rich Jorn of Pendleton, Ind., Phillip Jorn of Missouri; Matt Jorn of St. Charles, Mo.; three sisters, Shawn Pressnel of Houston, Texas, Andrea Meyer of Decatur, Ala., and Beth Tipton of Jonesboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Spencer Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ted Simpson, A.J. Jorn, Mike Toomey, John Meyer, John Lomax and Larry Tipton.
