Lynn Joanne McHaney Huffman, 76, of Springdale, formerly of Blytheville, passed away on Oct. 27, 2024, after a life richly lived in service and kindness.

Joanne was born in Blytheville, on June 14, 1948, to Joe and Lynn Jackson McHaney. She always thought people put flags out for her birthday, Flag Day!

Joanne enjoyed her childhood, especially spending time with her family at their cabin on Norfork Lake. She was a proud 1966 graduate of Blytheville High School. Joanne was a member of Pi Beta Phi at Memphis State University, then transferred to the University of Arkansas and soon married the love of her life, Mike Huffman, in 1968. After Mike’s two-year stint in the Army, they moved to Houston, where Joanne completed her education degree and began her teaching career.

Upon their return to Blytheville in 1973, Joanne became very active in many organizations. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a charter member and officer of PEO Chapter Cl and regent of the Charlevoix Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Joanne was a very involved member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, choir member, Women of the Church member, and clerk of the session. Very special to Joanne was being a member of her Thursday Night Bridge Club. So many friendships were made over the almost 50 years she played with the group. Along with her husband, Mike, she was a huge Razorback and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Joanne taught many years at Central Elementary School and Blytheville Intermediate School. Her time in the classroom, as a teacher, then as a mathematics coach, were very special to her.

Joanne joins her parents and grandparents, E.R. and Era Jackson, and Jno. C. and Ruby McHaney in Heaven.

Left to cherish Joanne’s memory are her husband, Mike, of the home; daughter Jill, and her husband, Jeff Netzel, their children, Kate, Caroline, and Will, of Springdale; and her son, Joel, his wife, Sarah, and children, Bracey and Anna Belle, of Fayetteville; a sister, Jill, and her husband, Ben Hubbard of Blytheville; and a sister-in-law, Susan Huffman, of Houston, and a host of family and friends.

The service will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will greet guests prior to the funeral beginning at 10 a.m. Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 1520 N. 10th St., Blytheville, Arkansas, 72315.

Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing our Joanne adored her sweet, selfless spirit, often referring to her as “Saint Joanne”.
