– Jayvin Thompson rushed for 148 yard and four touchdowns on nine carries to help Harrisburg (1-4, 1-1) win their first game of the season and snap a 23 game losing streak in a 33-6 win over Piggott this past Friday night. Remington Rapert finished with five carries for 56 yards as Hayden Anderson added a rushing touchdown. Evan Henley led the defense with 14 tackles, Anderson totaled 11 tackles, as Braden Brock, Andrew England, Trent Fitzgerald and Corbin all had 10 tackles each for the Hornets.
– T.J. Hodges scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter (only quarter he got to play) to help Marked Tree (4-1, 2-0) to a 24-20 win over Earle in 2A-3 conference action this past Friday in Earle. Hodges finished with 85 yards on the night. Ken Carter completed nine of 17 passes for 97 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Dawon Smith had two catches for 28 yards and a touchdown for the Indians.
– Cole New had a huge night for the Harrisburg Junior Hornets accounting for close to 200 yards total offense and four touchdowns in their 38-16 win over Piggott in Harrisburg. Cole had six carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns while completing five of 11 passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Wagner added 10 carries for 30 yards and a touchdown for Harrisburg. Justin McWhirter had four catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns, Jesse Hewitt had one catch for 16 yards and Hunter Camp caught a two-point conversion for the Junior Hornets. Heriberto Guzman had an interception as Wagner and Xander Barker recovered a fumble for the Hornets’ defense.
– The EPC Junior Warrior rolled to a 48-12 win over McCrory this past Thursday night at McCrory. A.J. Johnson rushed for 278 yards on five carries with four touchdowns to lead the Junior Warriors as Gabe Williams added 57 yards on five carries with a touchdown. Jeb Holiman had a touchdown rushing and completed two of our passes for 15 yards. Corbin Thomas had a catch for 15 yards for the Junior Warriors. Porter Russel led the EPC defense with seven tackles as Williams finished with five tackles. Brody Daniel recovered a fumble for the Junior Warriors.
– The Trumann Lady Wildcats’ volleyball team lost in straight sets 20-25, 12-25, 20-25 to Pocahontas this past Thursday at Wildcat Gym. Keely Beavers led Trumann with 13 digs. The Junior Lady Wildcats also lost in straight sets 19-25, 13-25.
– Cassie Carlson finished with 12 kills, 13 digs and six aces Tuesday (Oct. 1) as Harrisburg swept Crowley’s Ridge Academy 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 in 3A-3 conference volleyball. Adalen Kocher added 11 kills and 12 digs, while Macey Briley finished with eight kills for the Lady Hornets (16-1, 9-0 conference). Emerson Kerby had 29 assists and two blocks; Laynie Casebier finished with three blocks; and Addy Biggs chipped in with four kills. Harrisburg won the junior high match 25-0, 25-2
