Barbara Jean Pankey

Barbara Jean Pankey, 81, of Blytheville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Barbara was born in Nettleton to MD and Avolene Reid Veteto. She was a retired paraprofessional at Gosnell School. Barbara was a faithful member of Cole Ridge Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school to young people. She served in many facets within the church, and especially loved anything to do with hospitality. Barbara was wonderful with children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to go shopping, especially at her favorite store, JC Penney. Barbara was an excellent cook and made the best fried chicken and pot roast. She will be remembered by her generosity, not only to her family, but to anyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Pankey; a sister, Nancy Miller; two brothers, Jackie and Paul Veteto.

Barbara is survived by three children, Billy Pankey and wife Paula of Jonesboro, Richie Pankey and wife Micha of Blytheville, and Danny Jerome Pankey and wife Tonya of Blytheville; three brothers, Stanley Veteto and wife Bette of Arlington, Tenn., Dennis Veteto of Atlanta, Ga., and Carl Veteto of Conway; one sister, Rita Edington and husband Bill of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Mitchell Pankey, Sayer Pankey and wife Season, Caleb Pankey, Austin Pankey and wife Sarah, Joshua Pankey and wife Melissa, Jared Pankey and wife Emily, and Katie Beth Walker and husband Jacob; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joshua Pankey, Rev. Eddie Clemons and Rev. Danny Pankey officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland.
