Oscar Lee Redding
Oscar Lee Redding of Monette passed peacefully from his earthly life, Saturday evening, Aug. 31, 2024, at Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.
Oscar was born June 30, 1942, in Arkadelphia to William Cotton Redding and Gladys Elizabeth Coleman Redding. He was the second oldest of seven children and attended high school in Mt. Ida. Oscar joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and proudly served on the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) aircraft carrier from 1959 until 1963. He was a machinist and worked on the aircraft aboard the ship and carried his talent forward to civilian life as one of the best mechanics around.
On June 26, 1964, Oscar married his wife, Patsy Rolland Redding, in Monette. He later became a wonderful dad to his children, David and Sheila. He cherished every moment he spent with his family. When he became a Papa, he was over the moon and loved each of his grandchildren tremendously. His family was his whole life. Oscar never met a stranger and was kind to everyone he met. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, and telling a good joke. He loved his community and was a member of the Monette American Legion and was a Master Mason of the Monette Lodge No. 558.
Oscar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Rolland Redding, of Monette; his son, David Redding of Monette; his daughter, Sheila Hunt (Greer) of Leslie; eight grandchildren, Larissa Hale, Bradley Eubanks (Heather), Allison Eubanks, Tilly Redding, Kelsey Redding, Shayley, Makayla and Maleia; six great-grandchildren, Gabe, Rhett and Waylon Hale and Katie, Sarah and Lexi Eubanks;two brothers, Bill Redding and Kimmy Redding; two sisters, Nancy Queen and Janie (Ed) Lesnick. He also leaves behind plenty of loving friends that he cherished.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, William Cotton Redding and Gladys Elizabeth Coleman Redding; a sister, Margo Dickson; and a brother, Jackie Redding.
A celebration of his life will be announced through Gregg Funeral Home in Monette once arrangements are finalized.
