The public is invited to join in an unveiling ceremony recognizing the late Judge A.A. “Shug” Banks, a longtime leader in Mississippi County.
The event will be held from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, on the third floor (the original courtroom) of the Mississippi County Courthouse in Blytheville.
There will be refreshments, guest speakers and an official unveiling.
Judge Banks served the Mississippi County government from 1961 through 1980. He is the county’s longest tenure in county leadership. Judge Banks was elected 10 times for a total of 20 years to serve Mississippi County.
He was the first president and founder of the Arkansas Association of Counties and served as board director of the National Association of Counties. He was a statewide leader and advocate of Amendment 55, Act 742 of 1977.
Judge Banks passed away in 2001 leaving a legacy serving at the county, the state and the national level.
