Gerald Dee Ganus

Mr. Gerald Dee Ganus of Cooter, Mo., passed peacefully from this life and entered into the arms of Jesus at 7:51 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home in Cooter at the age of 84.

He was born in Etowah to the late Marcus Dee Ganus and Cleo Marie Russell Ganus. He was a lifelong resident of Cooter, Mo. He spent most of his adult career as the gin operator at the Cooter Cotton Gin and the farm manager for Clifford Jackson. His hobbies were playing cards or dominoes for hours on end with his family and anyone else he could get to play with him.

He was a member of Steele First Assembly of God, where he sat on the board since the board was established in 2022. He surrendered his heart and soul to our Lord and savior in 2015. He loved going to church, listening to gospel music, and especially singing at church just to worship God and to be a blessing to others. This includes singing songs that he had written.

He was married for 64 years to Eva Elverta Henry Ganus at Moore’s Studio in Lepanto on Oct. 26, 1959.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sandra Ganus; one son, Floyd Ganus; one son-in-law, Lee Adams; three sisters, Lorene Jackson, Christeen Reynolds and Retha Goff; three brothers, Earl Ganus, Harold Ganus and Carol Ganus.

He leaves behind his wife, Elverta Ganus; seven daughters, Sherry Riley and her husband Donnie, Glenda Adams, Eva Riley and her husband James, Kay Beard and her husband Gary, Valerie Gann and her husband Vernon, Melinda Burns and her husband Sam, and Trina White and her husband Mark; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Olene Reynolds, Girdy Gray and her husband Beau, Mary Webb, Marie Hawkins, Priscilla Ray and her husband Rick; three brothers, Carl Ganus and his wife Marsha, Tracy Ganus and his wife Gracie and Curtis Ganus and his wife Angie. Gerald also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends. He never met a stranger and he loved everyone very much.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at the Steele First Assembly of God Church in Steele, Mo., with Rev. Mark White officiating. Burial will follow in Number 8 Cemetery in Steele. The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, from 5-7 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel.
