Harrisburg's Elisabeth 'Liz' Green was selected to the Class 3A all-state basketball team for the 2023-2024 basketball season. This is Green's first all-state selection.
In 28 games this past season, Green scored 462 points for an average of 16.5 points per game. She also added 71 assists (2.5 apg), 177 rebounds (6.3 rpg), and 109 steals (3.9 spg). Green shot 42 % behind the three-point line for the year while shooting 52% on two-point baskets. She also made 68% of her free throws.
"I am so honored that to get All-State this year for basketball. I couldn’t have done the things I did this year without the support from my family and my teammates. I will always be grateful for the game of basketball and how it helps me in so many ways,” Green said of her selection.
“Right from the start, it was clear she'd be a vital part of our team. Looking back on the past year, Liz's impact has been undeniable. In my first year as coach, we had one senior, we were all about finding our groove, figuring out what worked best for us, and setting our sights on progress. Year two brought some big changes to our lineup again,– we added more depth, athleticism, and better shooting, and it really paid off. After some careful thought following my debut season, I made the decision to switch Liz from shooting guard to point guard. It wasn't an easy call to make, but I believed it would play to her strengths. Elisabeth is a natural slasher and has great finishing ability around the basket. So by taking those strengths and surrounding her with talented shooters only made her shine even brighter. Our scoring average went from 36 points per game in year one to a solid 50 points per game in year two, with Liz's personal scoring improving from 13 to 16.5 points per game. She not only improved tremendously from one year to the next but everyone around her got better as well. And to me, that is what a really good basketball player does, makes everyone around you better,” Harrisburg head coach Tyler Riddle said.
“But Liz isn't just a scorer. Her defensive game is top-notch too. She has tremendous defensive instincts that helped her to lead the team in steals and deflections as well. She plays all over the court and is ready to steal the ball or disrupt the opponent's play at any moment. Liz is not our most vocal player, far from it in fact. She is quiet even, but she is always ready to go to work and she doesn't complain. She just goes out and leaves it on the floor and that's all any coach could ask for. Looking forward, there's a sense of optimism in the air as we gear up for another season. Our sights are set on regionals, we want to be able to play with anyone in our conference and from there who knows. With Liz leading the way, I like our chances,” Riddle added.
