Bobby Joan Lewis McCann Gammill, 89, passed from this life on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at her home surrounded by family in Zachary, La.

Joan was born in Manila to A.J. and Iletha Lewis. She was a farmer’s daughter and the eldest of five children. Joan was raised in the Lost Cane Community, a member of Little River Baptist Church, and a 1953 graduate of Luxora High School.

Joan married James E. McCann in 1953 and two children were born from that union. She professed her life to Christ at an early age. Her faith and her family were the most important aspects of her life. She made certain to share God’s plan of salvation to all. Over the years she loved serving in the church Sunday school and vacation bible school ministries. She also volunteered with various organizations in serving the communities where she lived. After James passed away in 1987, she moved back to the Lost Cane Community to live with and care of her mother.

In 2005, Joan married Kennoth Gammill and moved to West Plains, Mo. They had many happy years together and enjoyed traveling, playing dominos, community service, and church activities. After Ken passed away in 2022, Joan moved to Zachary to be with her children.

Joan loved to study her bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, always thinking of others.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, and a brother, Wade.

Joan leaves to cherish her loving memory her two children, Shonette Hutchinson, Kyle McCann and wife Daphane; four grandchildren, Zachary Hutchinson and wife Beni, Kendall Hutchinson and wife Kelsey, Sara Hutchinson and fiance Harry Schwartberg, and James McCann and wife Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Parker Hutchinson, Makenna Hutchinson, Dorothy Lynn McCann, and Zaya Hutchinson; two stepsons, Stace Gammill and Kendall Gammill; three siblings, Steve, Sherrie, and Gary; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful help and care given by Dr. Barjindes Singh in West Plains, Missouri, and Dr. Michael Castine in Zachary, Louisiana and their staffs and Bridgeway Hospice.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, 603 W. Main Street, Blytheville, with Rev. Jim Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
