MANILA – The West Memphis Lady Blue Devils scored seven first inning runs and cruised to a 15-2 win over the host Manila Lady Lions Friday.
Despite answering with a run in its half of the inning, Manila (2-6) had dug itself too deep a hole as the Lady Blue Devils scored five more in the second. That chased Lady Lion pitcher Hadley Cohn who was relieved by Diem Warrenfells.
The visitors added three in the third and set the run-rule into effect.
Cohn, who singled in the first but was thrown out stealing, laced a one bagger to center leading off the bottom of the third in an effort to close the gap. Madison Tune was inserted as a courtesy runner and advanced to second on a ground ball out. Jesse Kroeger followed with a base hit putting runners at the corners.
Kroeger swiped second but both runners were stranded as the game ended on a strikeout.
Manila played with just eight players for two and one-half innings when Sierra Watts was injured as a result of a collision at first base. Tune served as a courtesy runner for Watts and scored on an fielding error. Watts had to be helped off the field and left the facility by car.
Raven Fields accounted for the remaining Manila run in the second on a West Memphis miscue as well.
Cohn led the team with two hits, while Watts and Kroeger each had one. Cohn was also saddled with the pitching loss.
