Buffalo Island Central School Board of Directors met in short session Thursday evening at the administration building on the high school campus in Monette.
“Our revenues continue to be up, and we are already through three quarters of our school year,” Superintendent Gaylon Taylor said.
After accepting the Feb. 22 minutes and March financial report, the board went into a 33-minute executive session to discuss hiring and resignations.
The board reconvened but made no decisions from their session. They reported that a list of classified and certified staff members would be offered contracts next month for approval.
Superintendent Taylor and the board were in high praise for the student participation in sports and academics.
“This has been an outstanding year for our students, all around,” Taylor said.
“We want to congratulate our girls basketball team for their outstanding performance at the state competition,” Jason Stewart said.
“I was truly amazed by the drama department’s presentation of ‘Anne of Green Gables’ performance on the Leachville campus,” Taylor said. “It was their time to be in the spotlight and they did an excellent job.”
Taylor also complimented the EAST students who attended the EAST 24 Conference last week at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The EAST Initiative sponsor is Jill Sanders. This is the 10th year for BIC students to attend the state conference. Former board member Nathan Sanders and former high school principal Randy Rose served as volunteers to help with the conference trip.
“These kids have found their niche,” Taylor said. “They are doing a good job and are in their own element.”
BIC students also took top honors at the high school competitions in the “Thrown to the Wolves” event held at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
The BIC FFA Alumni Auction raised $65,600 for support of their local chapter projects and programs.
The Mustang baseball team is also off to a winning start this season.
