Regina Kent Clay
Regina Kent Clay, 74, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Ridgecrest Nursing Center. She was born to the late Curtis and Betty Kent on June 15, 1949, in Memphis, Tenn. Regina spent the majority of her life in Marked Tree before moving to Jonesboro three years ago.
Regina dedicated 27 years of her life to educating young minds as a schoolteacher, with the majority of her career spent teaching science at Marked Tree High School. Beyond her profession, she was deeply involved in her community. Regina taught Sunday school classes, directed the choir, and played a pivotal role in “The Cherokee,” a tradition at Marked Tree High School, opening each senior high football game and pep rally. Regina also had a passion for music as she was an exceptionally talented pianist who often played in church and also shared her knowledge by teaching piano to others. Additionally, she taught swimming as well as serving as a lifeguard at Three Rivers Country Club. In her retirement, Regina loved being outside. She took immense time and pleasure decorating her outdoor areas where she could watch birds and spend time with her family, friends and her beloved dog Abraham. She loved showing off her patio to all who visited.
Regina is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Betty Kent. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Steve Clay, her two daughters, Mitzi (Paul) Malone of Lepanto and Stephanie (David) Lunsford of Brookland, along with four grandsons, three bonus grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Regina’s life will be held at a later date. For those who wish to express condolences or share memories, an online registry is available at www.emersonfuneralhome.com.
