The Humane Society of East Arkansas (HSEA), outside of Lepanto, suffered a loss on Jan. 26, when its more than 100 year old horse barn, office and storage building caught fire and burned to the ground.
The fire left seven horses, three mini horses, three donkeys and five dogs without shelter. The society also had just purchased all their animal feed for the month and lost it all, along with more than 300 bales of hay. They also lost their med room and storage room.
The Marked Tree Animal Rescue had been working the HSEA to get a list of their needs and is asking for the public’s help.
To send donations checks should be mailed to Humane Society of East Arkansas, C/O J. Portis, P.O. Box 710, Lepanto, AR 72354.
Due to the damage and repair work at HSEA, Marked Tree will be collecting items for them and will transport to HSEA. Extra bins will be placed at 118 Nathan in Marked Tree in a different color for HSEA. The blue bins are for Marked Tree Animal Rescue donations only.
The HSEA is in need of a refrigerator (for vaccines, etc.), food storage like trash can containers/metal cans, buckets of all sizes, filing cabinet, desk and chair, heat bulbs and fixtures, horse blankets size 78, horse brushes, leads and halters for horses, water buckets/large buckets for horses, feed buckets/rubber bowls for horses, hay bags that bang up or rings to put hay in and alpha hay for the older horses.
Also needed are dog houses, dog and cat food (canned and dry), dog treats, dog leashes (lead kind - makes a big loop), dog and cat blankets, pine chips for dog houses, cat beds, cat litter, rabbit food, rabbit bedding and pig feed.
