BIC (10-11, 4-4) outscored Marmaduke 11-7 in the fourth quarter to force overtime only to see the Lady Greyhounds outscore the Lady Mustangs 10-9 in overtime to take a 72-71 win in 2A-3 girls' basketball action this past Thursday at the MAC in Monette.

Marmaduke scored the first points of the game to go up 2-0 before Jaclyn Cagle hit two free throws for BIC to tie the game. The Lady Greyhounds canned a three-ball before Josephine Harneen hit a jumper for the Lady Mustangs to make it 5-3 Marmaduke. The Lady Greyhounds hit a three-pointer followed by a jumper before BIC got back to back jumpers from Kendra Towill making the score 10-8 Marmaduke, with just over three minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Greyhounds pushed the lead to 15-8 only to see Harneen and Cagle can back to back triple twine to cut the lead to 15-14. The Lady Greyhounds hit a jumper in the lane to make it 17-14 Marmaduke after one.

The Lady Greyhounds canned a three-ball to open the second quarter scoring to take a 20-14 lead. Bice Harneen hit four straight free throws on back to back trips to line to cut the lead to 20-18. The Lady Greyhounds canned another three-pointer before BIC got back to back baskets from Towill and one of two free throws from Cagle to tie the game at 23 with 4:31 left. The teams traded points over the last four minutes as Marmaduke hit two free throws, Cagle drilled a three-ball for BIC, the Lady Greyhounds hit one of two free throws and Hallee Wells hit one of two free throws for the Lady Mustangs before Marmaduke hit triple twine to make the score 29-27 Lady Greyhounds. Arabella Oliver connected on a three-ball for BIC, Marmaduke answered with a three-pointer, Towill hit a jumper in the lane for the Lady Mustangs then the Lady Greyhounds drilled a three-pointer with 36 seconds left to make the halftime score 35-32 Marmaduke.

Marmaduke pushed their lead to 38-32 with a three-pointer early in the third quarter before Wells scored inside for BIC to make it 38-34. The Lady Greyhounds hit three of four free throws on consecutive trips to the line before the Lady Mustangs got a basket from Wells and an old-school three-point play from Riley Parker to make the score 41-39 Lady Greyhounds with 4:50 left. Seven straight points from Marmaduke made it 48-39 before Bice Cagle hit two free throws to stop the run making it 48-41 Lady Greyhounds. Marmaduke got a stick back basket, Cagle hit one of two free throws for BIC, Marmaduke canned a three-ball before the Lady Mustangs got one of two free throws from Harneen and back to back three-pointers from Parker to make the score 53-49 Lady Greyhounds. BIC head coach Trevor Matheny was whistled for a technical foul and the Lady Greyhounds hit both technical free throws before Harneen got a steal and lay up right before the buzzer to make it 55-51 Marmaduke after three quarters of play.

Back to back baskets from the Lady Greyhounds pushed their lead to 59-51. BIC then scored the next seven points as Wells hit two free throws, Towill hit a jumper followed by two free throws and Wells scored off the fast break to make it 59-58 Lady Greyhounds with 2:07 left. Marmaduke hit one of two free throws before Cagle drilled a three-ball and Wells hit one of two free throws to make it 62-60 Lady Mustangs with 24 seconds left. The Lady Greyhounds scored in the paint with seven seconds left to make it 62-62 as the game went to overtime.

Wells hit a jumper in the lane to give BIC a 64-62 early in the overtime period before the Lady Greyhounds hit a trey to making it 65-64. The Lady Mustangs got a jumper in the lane from Towill and one of two free throws from Harneen to take a 67-65 lead, only to see Marmaduke hit a three-pointer to make it 68-67 Lady Greyhounds with 1:14 left. Towill hit of two free throws to tie the game at 68 before Marmaduke scored in the paint and hit one of two free throws to make it 71-69 Lady Greyhounds. Wells hit two free throws to tie the game at 71 with eight seconds left before Marmaduke hit one of two free throws making it 72-71 Lady Greyhounds. BIC would be unable to get another shot off and Marmaduke would escape with the win.

“I thought we competed well. We got punched in the mouth early but did a good job fighting back and getting and getting back into the game and forcing overtime,” BIC head coach Trevor Matheny said after the game. “We just didn't finish down the stretch like we needed. to. We didn't execute like we've been doing, felt like we had a different team show up tonight,” Matheny added.

Towill led BIC with 18 points while Cagle and Wells scored 14 points each. Harneen added 13 points, Parker finished with nine points and Oliver chipped in three points for the Lady Mustangs.
