WILSON – In the first pair of a quadruple header of basketball games Saturday, the Rivercrest Junior High girls and boys teams were victors over conference foe Harrisburg.
Teams resumed action after a week layoff as a result of winter weather and the Junior Lady Colts (7-6, 2-3 3-3A) opened with 42-26 win over the Junior Lady Hornets.
RJHS outscored the visitors in three of the four quarters but a 17-5 showing in the third period sealed the outcome. That 12-point margin increased a 19-13 halftime lead to 36-18.
The Jr. Lady Colts Armani Facon scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second and third quarters alone as her team stretched its advantage.
Lani Latham joined her teammate Facon in double figures with 13, while Randaisha Booker chipped in five.
Harrisburg had four players score at least five points with Addy Hall leading the way with seven. Camilla Spiegel added six points with Sophia Moore and Zoey Swelton contributing five each.
In game two, the Harrisburg Jr. Hornets boys squad built an early seven-point lead but the Jr. Colts outscored them by 18 points over the final three quarters to post a 41-30 win.
The Jr. Colts Dion Spears matched Harrisburg’s scoring total in the second period as he scored 10 points on his own to spark a 20-10 showing in the quarter. Spears knocked down two three-pointers, scored inside and added a pair of free throws to account for more than half of his 15 points in the game.
Christian Nunn followed Spears’s 15 with nine, while Lathen Bolden tallied eight points and NuNu Robinson seven.
Harrisburg was led by Caden Williams eight points. Austin James put seven points in the scoring column and Diggs Faulkner six for the Jr. Hornets.
