WILSON - Rivercrest held visiting Brookland scoreless for the first four minutes of the game but the Lady Bearcats would eventually find the range and go on to take a 67-46 win.
The game, Thursday, was the final contest of the annual Judy Watson Classic hosted by Rivercrest High School.
Rivercrest came out hot as Dee Dee Burks and Mykayla Banks staked the Lady Colts to an 8-0 lead with 4:25 to play in the opening quarter.
Brookland would finally get on the board with a free throw, which made it an 8-1 game with 3:58 to play in the first quarter.
The Lady Bearcats would go on a 10-run to take an 11-8 lead. Rivercrest would get back within a single point at 11-10. Brookland would end the quarter on a 5-1 run to lead 16-11 after one period. Brookland would push its advantage to as many as 13 points in the second period before taking a 31-20 lead at the half.
The onslaught continued in the third period as the Lady Colts continued to have trouble finding their shooting touch. The Lady Bearcats would go up 49-27 after three periods of play.
Rivercrest would finally get a few defensive stops and close the gap to 16 points with just over three minutes to play. But that would be as close as they would get, Brookland would push the lead back to 20-plus and finish with the 21-point win.
The Lady Colts (2-3) were paced by Banks’ game-high 17-point effort. Burks added 11 points for Rivercrest.
Burkeley Brewer and Chloe Rodriguez led the Lady Bearcats (2-1) with 12 points each.
