Marked Tree (9-2) got four touchdowns, two pass and two rushing, from Ken Carter as the Indians beat Murfreesboro 28-14 in quarter-finals of the Class 2A state football playoffs this past Friday in Murfreesboro.
Carter completed 12 of 20 passes for 129 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding two rushing touchdowns for the Indians. T.J. Hodges finished with 22 carries for 130 yards. J.J. Risper had five catches for 65 yards and a touchdown as Cam Marshall had three catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. Jonah Walker, Carter and Ja'Kaymion Williams each had an interception for the Indians' defense.
Cobey Riddle's shot at the buzzer was no good as Trumann lost 57-56 to Rector in the Wildcats' season opener at Rector last Tuesday (Nov. 9). Luke Bishop had 14 points to lead Trumann as Gavin Greenwell and Tristan Battles scored nine points each. Coda Cameron netted eight points, Jalen Elrod tossed in seven points, and Riddle finished with six points for the Wildcats. Trumann led 17-13 after one, 32-28 at halftime, and 41-38 after three.
Marked Tree had four players score in double digits led by Alesia Rands' 18 points as the Lady Indians rolled to a 65-26 win over Trumann last Tuesday (Nov. 9) in Marked Tree. Lakrissa Dupree finished with 12 points as Journi Versie netted 11 points and Zyonna Anderson tossed in 10 points for the Lady Indians. Chelsy Jones led Trumann with 11 points, Topanga Elliott added five points as Dalaney Osment and Ellisabeth Holladay scored three points each. Marked Tree led 21-6 after one, 39-16 at halftime and 57-23 at the end of three quarters.
