MONETTE - The Buffalo Island Central Junior Girls basketball team led 13-3 after one period and went on to defeat visiting Osceola 47-17 Thursday at BIC.
Freshman Chandler Gathright poured in eight points in the opening period to pace BIC. LeiMah Hooks scored two points and Kaitlyn Kuykendall added a free throw for Osceola in the opening frame. Osceola was only 1 of 8 from the line in the first period. BIC meanwhile hit only 1 of 4 attempts.
BIC would outscore Osceola 11-6 in the second period. Emma Kirk McCord would score six points for BIC in the quarter and Olivia Duffel would add five points. Reginae Jackson hit a three and a bucket to score five points for the Junior Lady Seminoles in the frame.
BIC’s Gathright would score 11 points in the second half as they built their advantage over Osceola. Kuykendall would score four second half points to pace Osceola.
BIC was led by Gathright’s game-high 19 points. McCord added nine points. Duffel and Aubrey Clayton both scored five points, while Bella Rodriguez had four points. Scout Lyerly and Haddie Wells both had two points for BIC.
Jackson and Kuykendall led Osceola with five points each. Shamrale Butler, Ikerrah Caruthers and Hooks all scored two points and Chanell Branch had one points for Osceola.
