Monette City Council held a special council meeting Monday, Oct. 9, to discuss the potential installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Highway 18 and 139, adjacent to Jordans Kwik Stop.
“County Judge Marvin Day wants to help with funds from the county to help with installation of the traffic light,” Mayor Bob Blankenship said. “Instead of our cost being $600,0000, it could be around $250,000. It might be a strain on our budget but we want to review all sides of the investment before making a decision.” After a lengthy discussion from council members about possible loans, interest rates, monthly payments and detailed input from Chief Brian Carmichael about traffic patterns, turn lanes, safe passage and current speeding ticket statistics, all council members agreed that Mayor Blankenship should proceed with obtaining additional information from Judge Day’s office prior to reaching an agreement about the installation of the traffic light.
Mayor Blankenship agreed that he would con-tact Judge Day’s office with additional questions before moving forward with any agreement with the county.
The council will hold its regular council meeting Monday, Oct. 23.
