Rivercrest (3-2, 2-0) will host conference rival Jonesboro-Westside (0-5. 0-2) in the Colts annual homecoming game Friday at Cortez Kennedy Field in Wilson.
The Warriors have struggled this season to sustain any offense, scoring only 23 points through the first five contests.
In Conference 3-4A play, the Warriors have been outscored 73-9 in losses to Trumann, 43-9, and Blytheville, 30-0.
Coach Bobby Engle’s team has an issue with depth and overall team speed is lacking. The lack of cohesiveness on offense is a major concern and Westside will need to generate offense at a level they have not maintained this season if they are to have any chance of pulling off a win over the Colts.
Rivercrest, meanwhile, despite the distractions of homecoming will be looking to get major production out of its passing and running games against the Warriors.
Cavonta Washington was efficient in the win over Harrisburg and the offense was a well oiled machine. Senior Michael Rainer will look to add to his school record totals receiving the ball and is a threat to score anytime he touches the football.
Koby Turner returned against Harrisburg and played well. The Colts Marcus Slayton should return this week and the addition of Slayton and Turner will make the Colts offense even more dangerous. Budda Harris and Jakavion Williams should also be major threats against the Warriors.
The Rivercrest defense was impressive holding Harrisburg to only 31 total yards and the defense was flying to the ball all night. Nolan William and Wyatt Lancaster had solid games for the Colts.
Look for a similar result this week as the Colts should be more than Westside can handle. Look for the Colts to move to 3-0 in league play Friday.
