On a night where the Rivercrest Colts (3-2, 2-0) were dominant, they tied a school record and saw three school records set by senior Michael Rainer in a 69-14 win over Harrisburg.
The Colts built a 54-0 halftime lead at Jordan’s Stadium in Harrisburg and would go on to add 15 points in the second half. Rivercrest’s output tied their total in a 1985 game when they defeated Osceola also by a 69-14 count.
The Colt offense was explosive and efficient and the Colt defense was stifling, holding the Hornets to 31 total yards, (-29) yards rushing and only two first downs.
Rainer had two catches for 54 yards and a score and ran for a score. Rainer now holds the career record for receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
Colts junior quarterback Cavonta Washington was 7-of-11 passing for 160 yards and three scores. Washington added a pair of rushing scores, as well.
Jakavion Williams had three catches for 57 yards and a score and had a 21-yard touchdown run.
Koby Turner returned from an injury and had receiving and rushing touchdowns. Tekylun Sanders and Kash Span added rushing scores. Leland Newson kicked 5 extra points, while holder Hunter Ellis ran in a pair of two-point conversions.
Rivercrest scored 33 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to set the “sportsmanship clock” in motion most of the second quarter and all of the second half.
On defense, Nolan Williams had seven tackles, three for a loss, and a pass deflection. Sanders had six tackles, three tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble. Andrew Lomack finished with six tackles, two for a loss. Senior Wyatt Lancaster had five tackles, two for a loss, a pair of sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
The Hornets would get the only points of the third quarter, scoring a pair of touchdowns.
Harrisburg would score on a 45-yard pass from Trenton Fitzgerald to Utarius Tate to make it 54-6. The Hornets Ethan Chambers would get the second Harrisburg score of the night with a 50-yard fumble return for a touchdown at the 4:29 mark of the period. The Hornets Jack Small would haul in the two-point pass to make it a 40 point game.
Both teams continue Conference 3-4A play next week. The Hornets (0-5, 0-2) travel to winless Pocahontas (0-5, 0-2), while the Colts host winless Jonesboro-Westside (0-5, 0-2) for the annual homecoming game.
Kickoff for both games will be 7 p.m.
