In an exciting showdown on the gridiron, the Osceola Seminoles displayed their prowess, securing a victory against the Piggott Mohawks. The game, played on Sept 29. saw the Seminoles dominating in almost every aspect, ultimately triumphing with a final score of 70-6.
1st Quarter:
The game kicked off with Seminole's staunch defense taking the field first. Right from the start, it was evident that their defense was formidable. Keviss Love, a standout player for the Seminoles, wasted no time and tackled the Mohawk's quarterback, forcing them into a fourth down situation.
The Seminoles' Chris James ignited the score-board with a stunning 38-yard touchdown run on their first drive. Although the two-point conversion attempt was incomplete, the Seminoles took an early 6-0 lead.
The Seminoles' defense continued to shine as Harris Manning recorded consecutive tackles, and Zion Simpson blocked a pass attempt by the Mohawks. Their persistence paid off when Atron Fultz blocked a Mohawk punt, scooped it up, and scored another touchdown for the Seminoles making it 12-0 with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter.
However, the Mohawks fought back as their quarterback executed a remarkable 25-yard run, reaching the 10-yard line. In the ensuing play, they secured a 10-yard rushing touchdown, narrowing the Seminoles' lead to 12-6.
The Seminoles quickly responded with Tyler Bell connecting with Keenan Jackson on a 40-yard pass-ing touchdown. The Seminole's James completed a two-point conversion, pushing the score to 20-6.
Piggott would get a nice 15 yard pass reception to pick up a first down, but they struggled to make significant headway before the quarter ended.
2nd Quarter:
The Seminoles' momentum carried into the second quarter. Despite the Mohawks' gaining a little ground the Seminoles' defense proved formidable, leading to a turnover on downs.
On the next snap, Osceola’s James showcased his explosiveness with a stunning 76-yard rushing touchdown which included a beautiful cutback at the Mohawks 20 yard line.
The Mohawk offense tried to mount a comeback, but Seminole's Emanuel Ewell intercepted a pass and returned it 58 yards for another Seminoles score, extending their lead to 32-6.
The Mohawks attempted to recover with a solid kickoff return. However, the Seminoles' defensive line, led by Harris Manning, remained relentless. Tyler Bell executed a 21-yard quarterback sneak, setting up a 41-yard passing touchdown to MJ Washington. James added the two-point conversion, widening the Seminoles' lead to 40 points.
The Seminoles' dominance continued as Manning pushed the Mohawks back eight yards. Demarius Hackett blitzed the Mohawks' offense, leaving them with a challenging third down and 18 yards.
The first half ended with the Seminoles firmly in control, boasting a commanding 40-6 lead.
3rd Quarter:
The third quarter commenced with the Mohawks kicking off to the Seminoles, who managed to recover the ball after a fumble, starting their drive at the 20-yard line.
The Seminoles' Bell completed a 55-yard pass, setting the stage for an-other touchdown run by James, this time for 20 yards. The scoreboard now displayed a commanding 46-6 lead for the Seminoles.
The Seminoles' defense remained unyielding as William Spencer intercepted a pass, further frustrating the Mohawks. James continued to shine with a 39-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 52-6. Quarterback Bell added a two-point conversion, pushing the Seminoles to 54 points.
The Seminoles' defense once again made an impact as Simpson recovered a fumble at the 35-yard line with the assistance of Spencer. James then capped off his remarkable performance with a 45-yard rushing touchdown and another successful two-point conversion. Simpson added to the tally with an impressive 11-yard run for a touchdown.
The third quarter ended with the Seminoles in full control, leading 68-6, setting the stage for their much needed first win of the season.
After the game, Keviss Love, Seminoles' center and defensive tackle, shared his thoughts on the game stating, "We did good... we got our blocks right finally. We had energy, played as a team, was too much bad communication, and we just did good." In this high-scoring affair, the Osceola Seminoles showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball, securing a memorable victory.
Osceola (1-5, 1-0) now turns its focus to its upcoming senior night game against Palestine-Wheatley (3-3, 0-2).
The Patriots and the Seminoles will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Seminole Stadium.
