Caraway Mayor Bo James updated the council on street paving and job applicants at the regular Aug. 10 meeting.
Mayor James informed the council the paving of the city streets will begin soon. At a later special called meeting on Aug. 21, the council approved funding additional paving on Bowen Street where several new houses have been built.
Several applications for the mayor’s administrative assistant position have been received. Mayor James said interviews will begin within a week.
A rate study of the city water system will be arranged by Mayor James.
The annual Caraway Harvest Festival will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
Councilman Mitchell Tipton informed the council that he and the mayor continue to try to get a bank to locate in the city.
Travis Emery addressed the city officials expressing an interest in leasing the now available old dress factory. The terms dis-cussed included a month to month lease of the property with a possible option to purchase. The insurance for the building was dis-cussed which Emery said he presently has on his contents in the building.
The monthly lease price and other details will be worked out going forward.
The council voted unanimously to move $10,000 from the city one cent sales tax account to the city water and sewer department.
Council members present were Tipton, Jerry Martin, Jeff Rea, Pete Hicks, Marvin Browning and Chris Kelems.
Council members voted to proceed with action to condemn properties located at 402 Waco, 210 and 315 School Streets, Mayor James said he will contact the city attorney, Johnny Dunigan, on the matter.
