The Mississippi County Courthouse in Osceola was recently recognized nationally when an Arkansas architecture firm was honored with the use of copper in the dome’s restoration.
The courthouse dome was one of 11 building projects receiving the North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) award from the Copper Development Association. Revival Architecture, of Scott, Ark., received the honor for its “outstanding application of architectural copper and copper alloys”.
The firm served as the lead in the project which restored not only the copper dome but encompassed other improvements to the 110-year old building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Nearly 14,000 pounds of copper was used during the project as all elements were custom fabricated.
The project was completed late last year.
