James Gordon Sherrod
James Gordon Sherrod, 83, of Gosnell, former longtime Manila resident, passed from this life Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Harris Health Care in Osceola. Born in Marie, he was the son of the late Vernie and Mildred Bostic Sherrod and had been a longtime Manila area resident before making his home in Gosnell. James was the owner/operator of J&M Electric/Plumbing & HVAC of Manila for several years. He also had been employed with the Mississippi County Nursing Center in Blytheville and had been employed with the Manila School District as a bus driver. James enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his cattle and horses. He was a longtime member of the New Harmony Baptist Church near Manila. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Sherrod, two infant brothers, and one sister, Goldie McFann.
Survivors include his wife, Vernestine Godsey of Gosnell; four sons, Marty Sherrod (Rachel) of Leachville, Tracy Godsey (Tina) of Manila, Joseph Godsey (Mandy) of Osceola and Matt Godsey of Blytheville; two daughters, Jamie Sherrod Carter (John) of Mountain Home and Carrie King (Mitchell) of Manila; three brothers, Marvin Sherrod of West Helena, Jerry Sherrod of Atkins and Franklin Sherrod of Ellsinore, Mo.; one sister, Ola Faye Nelson of Poplar Bluff, Mo. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Mitchell King officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.
