Library announces Summer Reading program

The Mississippi County Library System has announced registration for the 2022 Summer Reading Program is now open.

Children can earn points by reading books, writing reviews, attending events and participating in library programs to win prizes.

This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities.

Among the events scheduled is Kiwi the Skateboarding Parrot on June 8. The program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Blytheville library, 12 p.m. at the Manila library and at 3 p.m. at the Wilson library. It is ask those attending to refrain from wearing heaving perfumes or lotions due to the sensitivity of the parrot.

Tarantula Show with Samuel Curtis will be held June 13 at the Manila and Leachville libraries. The show will be held at 11 a.m. in Manila and at 1 p.m. in Leachville.

Tommy Terrific, the great magician, will be at the Blytheville library at 1 p.m. and at the Osceola library at 4 p.m.

The Runaway Theater will perform June 21-23 at the local branches. Performances will be held at 10 a.m. June 21 at the Leachville library and 2 p.m. at the Blytheville library; June 22 at 10 a.m. at the Wilson library and 2 p.m. at the Manila library; and June 23 at the Osceola library at 10 a.m. and Keiser library at 2 p.m.

A Balloon Magician will perform June 28 at 10 a.m. at the Blytheville and at 2 p.m. at the Manila library.

Story time and crafts will be held Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Blytheville library and at 4 p.m. at the Keiser Library. The Leachville library will hold story time and crafts at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Story and craft time will be held at 1 p.m. on Mondays or Wednesdays at the Manila branch depending on the event date.

Tuesdays at 12 p.m. is story time and crafts at the Osceola library. Wilson library will be announced at a later time.

During the month of July take and make kits will be available. New kits will be out each week. Kits will vary by branch.
