Jack D. Simers
Jack D. Simers, 87, of Blytheville, passed from this life to his eternal life on Feb. 11, 2022, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Jack was born in Mammoth Spring to Frank and Eunice Banks Simers, where he lived until moving to Blytheville in 1958 after having married Jo Anne Wood Simers on May 1, 1954. He worked for Ark-Mo Power, Arkansas Power and Light and Entergy until his retirement. For the past 10 years, he has been the sole caregiver for, and committed to maintaining a high quality of life for Jo Anne, his wife of 67 years.
Jack was a longtime member, deacon and elder of the Presbyterian Church in Blytheville, where he served on many and various committees, and also served in various capacities, as needed. His faith and love for his church was admired by a long list of friends and associates.
Serving as a Little League baseball coach for Ark-Mo and Rotary was one of his favorite ways to serve the community. He was always appreciative of the phone calls and visits from former players who thanked him for being a male figure in their lives or from making a poor decision that could have led them down an unwanted path. He remembered them all and always had a story about their nickname and batting averages. He loved to play golf and played as long as he was physically able.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Melissa Anne Simers, and sister, Mary Alice “Midge” Simers.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Simers, of the home; children, Randy Simers of Bolivar, Ohio, David Simers, of Plano, Texas, and Toby Simers, of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Adam Simers, Emily Hamrick, Brynlee Hairston, Eric Simers and Morgan Simers; and brother, Robert “Bob” Simers, and his wife, Joan Gail, of Mammoth Spring.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. The family will receive friends during visitation on Friday, Feb. 18, from 4-6 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made in Jack's honor to the First Presbyterian Church. Condolences to the family may be made at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
