Rivercrest’s last-second heave went in and out, and the Gosnell Lady Pirates held on for a 40-38 win, Friday night, in front of a large crowd at Pirate Gym.
Gosnell led 38-31 going into the fourth quarter, but Rivercrest went on an 8-1 run capped by a wing three-pointer from Macy Henderson with 47.7 seconds to play, which cut the GHS lead to 39-38.
Gosnell’s Ty Young sank a free throw with 4.9 seconds left to make it 40-38. Rivercrest called timeout, and pushed the ball down the floor for the final shot and dramatic finish.
Gosnell grabbed a 15-9 lead in the first quarter in large part to J’Macc Jones’ 12 points, and the Lady Pirates enjoyed a 24-18 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Pirates pushed their lead to 11 in the third and had a seven-point lead going into the final frame. Jones led Gosnell with 16,while Young added 11.
Ja’Nasia Thomas led Rivercrest with 10.
