Riverside School Board president Greg Douglas was recognized as an Outstanding Board Member by the Arkansas School Board Association the Jan. 3 meeting.

The award is given  for 25 hours of in-service credit.

Superintendent Jeff Priest expressed his appreciation to Douglas and presented him with a certificate and pin.

All board members, Kyle Vaughn, Rob Kincade, Greg Smith, Brooks Hatch and Douglas, were present for the meeting.

In honor of January’s Board Appreciation Month, each board member received a gift from the high school and thank you cards from East and West Elementary students.

“It is good to have the kids take part and show their appreciation,” Priest said. “I want to thank you for the job you do.”

Priest said he was glad to report the buildings on the Caraway and Lake City campuses did not receive damage from the Dec. 10 tornado. He also said the solar panel fields are going through conditioning and are working.

“I hope to see savings soon,” Priest said. “It has been a long project.”

High School secretary Kelly Adams submitted her resignation as of Jan. 7. Priest recommended hiring Sonia Robertson to fill the position. The board voted unanimously to hire Robertson.

Priest said Glenda McCluskey, cafeteria manager,  submitted her resignation as of Dec. 17, 2021. She has served the school for 25 years.

“I want to commend her for her service to the district,” Priest said.

The board all expressed their appreciation and well wishes to Ms. McCluskey.

Patty Stallings has been filling in and Priest recommended promoting her from cafeteria worker to manager for the Riverside East cafeteria. The board approved the recommendation 5-0.

The board also unanimously voted to extend Priest’s three-year contract by an additional year.

The board approved two legal student transfers, one out of the district and one into the district.

Riverside Homecoming will be held on Friday, Jan. 14, with the homecoming festivities starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by the games.
