Blytheville native Gerard Watkins flipped a hard time into an opportunity to capitalize on a lifetime talent.

After missing time at work due to a medical leave, he tapped back into his gift with barbeque sauces and seasonings.

“This is something I’ve always had a passion for, but I had never went the next step with it. I put it to use for the first time in 2019. It actually started off with just the seasoning, but I got away from it. Now I’ve come back to it.”

After developing the seasoning, Watkins continued to create his original barbeque sauce, along with the Arkansas Gold flavor as well.

Watkins also noted that he makes a conscious effort to keep the sauce from being too thick. By doing so, the sauces can provide the right taste on wings, burger, chicken, etc.

With the community support he’s already developed, Watkins’ goal is to maximize his passion to the fullest.

“[My goal is] to be on any shelf in America because it’s good enough to be. I’ve bought a lot of sauces, and none of them are the same. It has a distinct flavor and when you try it, you know it's something you’ve never tasted before.”

Watkins’ first time creating his own seasoning came from simply looking to slightly adjust the taste of a store bought seasoning.

“It was a little bit too salty. I thought to just make some myself that would fit me. I actually used that recipe in 2012, but I just got away from it. One difference now is that I’ve added some herbs to it. I also took out the onion powder and added more garlic powder, because with the herbs, it’s better for inflammation.”

Watkins went on to add, “Even if you’re not the best on the grill, my sauce can save your barbeque.”

While currently developing his website, Watkins is selling through his Facebook page and his business number, 870-375-2897.
