A Blytheville police officer is under investigation for an alleged domestic assault Thursday night.
Zachary Purrington, 36, of Blytheville was booked into the Mississippi County Jail on Friday afternoon on charges of aggravated robbery and kidnapping, according to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office.
"One of our officers was involved in a domestic assault last night at his girlfriend's house in the county," Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson said Friday morning. " I'm told that after breaking up, he threatened his girlfriend and a family member of hers, with a firearm. The officer was off duty at the time. I'm told the firearm involved was the officer's personal property, it was not discharged and nobody was injured. The officer was located in Jonesboro and with our assistance has been detained by Jonesboro PD."
The Mississippi County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, while BPD conducts an internal investigation.
"The officer in question has been with us for a few years with with no notable disciplinary issues," Thompson said. 'We need to refer any questions concerning arrests or charges to the investigating agency."
