The Mississippi County Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a community-wide clean-up on Friday, Oct. 8, from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. at their office at 300 West Walnut Street, Blytheville.

Sponsored by Nucor Steel Arkansas and Nucor-Yamato Steel, the event will include street clean-up by teams, but the Chamber will also be headquarters for collection of a variety of waste.

“A shredder will be on site from 9 – 1, compliments of Southern Bancorp,” said Liz Smith, executive director. “In addition, we urge people to bring e-waste—old computers, printers, and cell phones; we will take old tires, paint, batteries (non- leaking) and of course, all paper debris.”

The clean-up does not include vegetation or any garden rubbish. From the Chamber, all items will be circulated to appropriate recyclers. “We appreciate the terrific work the Nucor Corporation is putting into this,” Smith continued. “And Southern Bancorp is annually committed to the shredding needs of the community. We hope other businesses will get involved, either by sending out a clean-up team, by bringing in debris, or both.” The community clean-up has been a Chamber staple for over 20 years, and is held in conjunction with Keep Arkansas Beautiful and their statewide event, the Great Arkansas Clean-up.
