Vera Lou Mitchell

Vera Lou Mitchell, 83 of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.

Born in Ripley, Miss., to the late Hines and Rebecca Whitehead Smith, Vera was retired from Walgreens and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed shopping and being outdoors. She was a collector of beautiful jewelry and recipe books. Vera was an excellent cook and always prepared the most delicious meals. Her family was most important to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Mitchell; and siblings, Richard Smith, Bobby Smith, James Smith and Victoria Ray.

Vera leaves her children, Steve Mitchell of Ripley, Tenn., and Lisa Gwen Mitchell of Memphis; grandchildren, Jacqueline Adkison of Walls, Miss., Steven Mitchell, Jr. of Martin, Tenn., Daniel Mitchell of Ripley, Tenn., Jonathan Mitchell of Memphis, Tenn., and Robert Mitchell of Jackson, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Jillian Adkison, Amberlyn Adkison, Hunter Mitchell, Maxwell Mitchell, Henry Mitchell and Madison Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Holifield officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, face masks are required to enter the building.
