A Blytheville police officer saved the life of an offender who apparently cut himself when breaking a window.

According to a report from the Blytheville Police Department, on Saturday, officers responded to the 800 block of South Lilly where D'andre Whitfield was passed out in the yard of the residence.

“Whitfield had a large laceration on his left wrist and was losing a large amount of blood,” the report reads. “I advised Officer (David) Cross, who was arriving on scene, to bring a tourniquet. Officer Cross placed the tourniquet on which appeared to stop the bleeding. I asked Whitfield how this had happened. He stated he busted out the window and the glass cut him. I looked up and observed the front right window of the residence to be busted. Pafford EMS arrived on scene and transported Whitfield to Great River Medical Center. Upon further investigation, I observed blood on the broken glass on the broken window. I also observed a blood trail leading from the window to where Whitfield had been laying. I took photos of the scene, which will be entered into Evidence.com. I then spoke to the neighbors of that residence. They stated they did not see what happened, but just heard Whitfield yelling. When they saw he was injured they called police. After completing my investigation I relocated to Great River Medical Center to stand by while Whitfield was placed on a helicopter and airlifted to Memphis for treatment. I was then informed by Pafford EMS staff that Officer Cross's actions on scene saved Whitfield's life. The owner of the residence was later contacted and notifed of the incident.”

On Monday, a Regional Medical Center spokesperson told the NEA Town Courier Whitfield has been released from the Memphis hospital.
