Blytheville police have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with Thursday's slaying of 56-year-old Bennie Mosley, according to Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson.

"The evening of February 4th, 2021, a 16-year-old male juvenile approached officers at the Blytheville Police Department and rendered incriminating statements to them," Thompson said in a press release Friday afternoon. 'The juvenile was listed as a runaway from the City of Jonesboro and was subsequently detained at the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department. Initial information indicates the homicide may have been committed during a robbery of Mr. Mosley. Formal charges have not been filed as of the date and time of this release. We thank those who assisted us in the investigation."

On Thursday, at approximately 3:30 pm, officers of the Blytheville Police Department responded to an apartment in the Blytheville Housing Authority area in the 300 block of S. Division about an unresponsive person.

"On arrival officers located 56-year-old Bennie Mosley of Blytheville in his apartment deceased," Thompson said. "It has been determined that Mr. Mosley’s death is the result of an assault."
