The Leachville City Council reviewed preliminary plans for future apartments to be located on Doc Rodman Street during Monday’s meeting.

Mayor Rodney Robertson and council members welcomed Hugh Rose who discussed plans for apartments requesting the okay to remove the broken-up sidewalks running in front of the property.

“It does not make sense to pour good concrete up the old,” Rose said.

He went on to say the sidewalks there are not usable.

The apartments will not be right up to the street. There will be parking. He said there is a sewer line at the back of the property and they want to protect that.

Rose said he will work with the city on what needs to be done.

Councilwoman Lisa Baldridge said the apartments built by Rose on the south end of town (33 units) have been an asset to Leachville and she had no doubt these will also be good for the community.

The council voted unanimously to allow the removal of the old sidewalk.

Plans are to build 10 units, possibly 15, if there is enough room.

Rose expressed his appreciation to the city for their cooperation.

Councilman Paul Wildy asked about walking in the community gymnasium. He said he had been asked about being able to use the gym and the guidelines.

Ruth Ann Keith, city clerk, said the mandates require masks unless they can stay six feet apart.

“It is hot but if they can handle it, I don’t see any reason they can’t,” Mayor Robertson said.

Mayor Robertson said the work on the plant and sewer work has begun.  Water Superintendent Robert Ballard was not at the meeting to give an update.

Baldridge said she wanted to thank him and the workers for fixing the water and getting it back on quickly without having to put the city under a boil order.

If all goes as planned, court will resume in Leachville on Aug. 19.

Mayor Robertson said the park commission held a baseball tournament over the weekend and it did well. He also said the insulation has been installed in the community gymnasium.

The next regular council meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17.
