A McDonald's employee was robbed at gunpoint early Saturday morning when opening the restaurant on South Division in Blytheville, according to Capt. John Frazier, the CID commander of the Blytheville Police Department.

Frazier said around 4 a.m., Saturday, an employee of McDonald's on South Division was opening for the day when an unknown individual approached her from behind with a firearm and demanded that the safe be opened.

"When the employee advised the offender she did not have keys to the safe, he took the keys to her vehicle and fled the scene," Frazier said. "Responding officers observed the vehicle leaving the parking lot and began to pursue the vehicle at that time. After a short pursuit the offender fled on foot and was not caught by pursuing officers. The offender was described as a black male, approximate age unknown, wearing dark clothing and a dark toboggan."
