The Blytheville Lady Chickasaws were defeated 65-32 Monday night by 4A-3 conference foe the Valley View Lady Blazers.
The Lady Chickasaws (0-8, 0-4) started off sluggish as the Lady Blazers jumped out to an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter, but BHS cut the lead 10-6 after senior guard Zion Haynes started the run off by finding classmate Sandi Gillespie on the block for a layup and then Haynes hit two jump shots of her own.
Around the 2:50 mark, guard Rareunna Harris got the Chickasaw crowd hyped after a big-time block on a Lady Blazer corner three attempt.
Valley View led 12-7 after the first quarter.
The second quarter, however, the Lady Blazers ran away with the game as they led 29-13 at the half and led 48-19 after the third quarter.
The Lady Chickasaws showed some life in the fourth quarter as they fought to the last minute of the game before the mercy clock was finally enacted after a Lady Blazers three-point basket with 50 seconds remaining in the game.
Blytheville was led by senior forward Teonna Washington with 12 points. Washington’s classmates center Traveonna Mays finished with 11 points and Haynes finished with seven points.
BHS will travel to Batesville Friday night where they will face the Lady Pioneers who are 15-1 on the season and ranked fourth in the state.
The Lady Pioneers lone loss came to the Nettleton Lady Raiders in the NEA Division 3 Finals last Tuesday.
