Leachville Council reviewed and approved the 2020 budget at a special called meeting on Monday, Dec. 30, as presented by Mayor Rodney Robertson.

All council members and city clerk/treasurer were present.

The total amount of the budget was $1,538,303, which includes the recent raises approved by the council.

The council approved two public meetings to discuss the proposed city sales tax. The council will be asking citizens to vote for a one cent city sales tax with half going to the water and sewer department; one fourth to the police department; and one fourth to the fire department.

The meetings will give citizens the opportunity to ask questions about the tax.

The first public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, prior to the regular city council meeting at 7 p.m. The second meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 3. Both meetings will be held at city hall.

The council also discussed increasing dumpster fees.
