Blytheville police are investigating the shooting death of a Memphis man Thursday night on South Lake.
According to Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson, officers responded to the 300 block of South Lake Street around 11 p.m., Thursday, in reference to a shooting.
Thompson said when they arrived, they found 18-year-old Damon Matthews of Memphis had been shot. "While at the scene officers were informed that a second gunshot victim had arrived at the Blytheville Great River Emergency Room," Thompson wrote in a press release. "That person was treated locally for non-life threatening injuries. Matthews was transported to a medical facility in Memphis, TN. On 12/27/19, at approximately 8:30 am, the Blytheville Police Department was advised that Matthews had died as a result of the gunshot injury. The name and information of the second subject injured is being withheld at this time pending the outcome of the investigations. While the investigations into the shootings are still ongoing information has developed that Matthews was an admitted gang member."
