Horace E. Box
Horace E. Box, 72, of Manila, passed from this life, Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Born in Dyess, he was the son of the late Samuel and Dora Pittman Box. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he had served over 20 years in the U.S. Army before retiring. Following his military service he worked as a truck driver and for Rose Farms. A Manila resident since 1988, he was a member, and Senior Trustee, at the First United Pentecostal Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Herman Davis American Legion Post #197. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Retha Box.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Julia Churchwell Box of the home; two daughters,
Tanya Fleeman (Duane) of Manila and Rebecca Grubb (Jason) of North Carolina; four brothers, Gary Box, Donald Box, Elmer Box and Calvin Box; five sisters, Doris Dean, Patty Brush, Joyce Ibson, Margaret Sparks and Evelyn Sharp. He also leaves three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and his beloved cat, Sissy.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Manila with Rev. Robert White officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila. The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
