MANILA —Manila played host to the Corning Bobcats who spoiled Lions’ homecoming Friday night, beating them 36-0.
The Lions (2-3, 0-2 3A-3) received the ball first, opening with some momentum and a big return by Jordan Spray. Spray gave the Lions excellent field position. Unfortunately, they turned the ball over on downs.
Both teams played hard defensively, turning each other over back and forth.
The Bobcats were the first to get on the board, after a nice drive, with big runs by Gary Comstock and finished off with a 3-yard run by Clay Smith. PAT was no good leaving the score 6-0.
The Lions offense got it going early in the drive with Clint Mckaskle’s 20-yard run. The Lions couldn’t get points though, turning the ball over on downs.
The Lions defense come up big forcing a fumble and recovering it to take the ball back to end the first quarter.
The Bobcats defense once again came up big forcing a turnover.
The Lions defense forced another turnover, recovering another fumble, to take the ball right back.
The defensive battle continued on with the Bobcats breaking the silence with Smith finding Nikoda Amiker for a 22- yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was good making it 14-0 at the end of the first half.
The Lions defense still came out on fire, with Zach Morris coming up big with an interception.
Unfortunately the offense couldn’t get anything going, turning it over on downs.
The Bobcats offense put together a great drive and capped it off with Jake Gutierrez scoring a 10-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good, leaving the score 22-0.
The Bobcats defense remained unbothered, forcing another turnover on downs.
Gutierrez continued his big night getting in the end zone again, with a 22-yard run. The two-point conversion was good making the score 30-0..
The Bobcats defense was still involved late in the game forcing another turnover.
This time it was an interception by Amiker who returned it it for a touchdown. The PAT was no good, making the final score 36-0.
The Lions travel to Osceola on Friday night.
