Homer A. Smith, Jr.
Homer A. Smith, Jr., 89, of Blytheville, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at his home. Born in Holland, Mo., to Homer A. and Oma Smith, he was the owner of Homer Smith State Farm Insurance Agency. He worked for State Farm for 57 years, in which he qualified for the Millionaire Club for 20 plus years in a row. He qualified for many trips and prizes for his work in helping clients keep their possessions and families safe. This allowed him and his wife of 64 years to see the world. Homer served his country with honor in the United States Navy as a 2nd Class Seaman and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Homer enjoyed sports and played American League Baseball. He also officiated basketball, football, umpired baseball for over 25 years. He was the former assistant coach of the American League Baseball team and a professional baseball scout for the Baltimore Orioles. Homer was an avid golfer that participated in and won several tournaments. He was a longtime active member of the Blytheville Country Club for over 45 years. Homer enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and other activities. He never met a stranger, never forgot a face and remembered his client’s milestones. Wherever he traveled he always seemed to know someone. His greatest quality was his love for his family and friends, and would give them the shirt off of his back to help them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bobby Smith.
Homer leaves his wife, Doris M. Clark Smith of the home; two children, Dale F. Smith and his wife Carol of Arlington, Tenn., and Van W. Smith of Lakeland, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Megan Smith of Memphis, Erin Smith of Oxford, Miss., Stephen Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alex Smith of Bettendorf, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren, Whitney Pinter, Dylan Pinter, Sophie Pinter, Sam Pinter, Ainsley Smith and Baylor Smith.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Zach Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home.
