While Manila High School was holding its 2019 graduation ceremony on Monday, seven Lion classmates made unique arrangements due to their participation in the Class 3A State Baseball Tournament being held at the same time in Harrison, Arkansas. Manila was originally scheduled to play on Saturday, but the game was delayed until Monday due to heavy rain.
Senior baseball players Brock Birmingham, Abraham Lopez, Ethan Navarro, Michael Parker, Jeremiah Perez, Layne Sims and Hunter Vuletich donned their caps and gowns over their baseball uniforms and accepted their diplomas on the ballfield 15 minutes prior to the first pitch in Monday’s state semifinal matchup with Harmony Grove of Benton. Diplomas were presented to the players by Manila school board members Johnny McCain and Dr. Tommy Wagner.
