Tuesday afternoon, the Gosnell High School library was packed as teammates, friends, faculty and Devin Jones’ family members watched on as Jones signed his national letter of intent to play football at the University of Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

Jones said, “It feels amazing knowing that I’ll be able to further my career in football and play the sport that I love! I’ll be taking my talent to the University of the Cumberlands. I’ve always dreamed of signing to play for a college and now it’s reality.”

Former Pirates head coach Brandon Barbaree explained how special of a player Jones was in the classroom, the weight room and on the field.

“It’s special for any athlete to be able to play college football, for Devin to be part of only six percent of athletes that get to play in college is outstanding,” said Barbaree. “Devin has been a very good student athlete, that we’ve never had to worry about his grades and he is a young man that’s not afraid of the weight room. His motor is something that sets him apart in games. I look forward to seeing him progress and become a great college player.”

Jones thanked the “good Lord” and his family, friends and coaches.

Jones added,“I would like to thank the good Lord above for giving me the talent and ability to play with such a high level of intensity in every sport. I would like to thank all of my friends and family for cheering me on at every game! I want to give a big thanks to my mom and dad for putting me in the position to be active and healthy, for making me into a wonderful young man. Lastly, I would like to thank every coach that has ever shared their knowledge and coached me to my best abilities, for never giving up on me and pushing me everyday!”
