Manila exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning to rally past Piggott 16-8 Monday afternoon at Piggott.

Manila built a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Mohawks plated four runs to take a 7-6 edge.

The Lions pushed across the tying run, and with the bases loaded, Elijah Nichols drew a walk to put Manila on top for good.

The Lions pounded out 16 hits on the day compared to Piggott’s eight.

Michael Parker picked up the win in relief, working two and 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits. Parker fanned three and did not allow a walk. Ethan Navarro got the start for Manila, going the first four and 1/3 innings. The senior righthander gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits. Navarro struck out six and issued three walks.

Abraham Lopez laced a pair of singles and belted a double while driving in a run and scoring twice to pace the Manila offensive attack. Brock Birmingham belted a pair of singles, drove in four runs and scored three times. Navarro singled, doubled, had two RBI and scored twice while Layne Sims had two singles, three RBI and crossed the plate twice. Jeremiah Perez singled twice and scored two runs while Nichols had two singles, an RBI and scored a run. Anthony Lopez singled and scored a run, Dustin Clark and Chance Miller both singled while Parker, Jake Baltimore and Hunter Vuletich all scored runs.

Manila played host to Walnut Ridge on Tuesday, but succumbed to a seven run, fourth inning outburst by the Bobcats, dropping an 11-8 decision in 3A-3 conference baseball action.

The Lions held a 3-2 lead after three innings before Walnut Ridge put together their big fourth inning. The Bobcats tacked on single tallies in the fifth and seventh innings to move ahead 11-3. The Lions rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four times, before Walnut Ridge’s Kai Cunningham came on in relief to pick up the save. Cole Manning pitched the first six innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits to earn the victory. The righthander fanned six and walked five.

Abraham Lopez took the loss for the Lions. Lopez pitched three and 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs, only one of which was earned. Lopez allowed four hits, struck out four and walked four. Dax Davison pitched the final three and 1/3 innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits. Birmingham slammed a three-run homer and finished with two hits and four RBI with a run scored. Abraham Lopez singled twice and had two RBI. Davison slapped an RBI single while Perez singled and scored once. Kason Grissom had a base hit, Sims drove in a run, while Navarro, Anthony Lopez, Parker, Vuletich, Baltimore and Jackson Imler all scored runs.
