Buffalo Island Central erupted for eight runs in the third inning, breaking open a close game, and went on to down Sloan Hendrix 16-6 in high school softball action Tuesday afternoon at Monette. The two teams put three runs on the board apiece in the first inning.
BIC moved ahead 5-3, scoring twice in the second before their eight run third inning explosion. The Mustangs scored three more runs in the fourth. Sloan Hendrix tacked on three runs in the fifth, but the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Freshman Mason Hastings gained the victory, working five innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on three hits. Hastings struck out four and walked one. The freshman also came up big at the plate, clubbing a single and a triple while driving in five runs and scoring once.
Vicky Esparza had four hits, drove in two runs and scored three times. Jealynn Cates belted two singles and a double, had two RBI and scored three runs. Brianna Lambert and Laci Dewitt both had a pair of singles, drove in one run each and scored two runs apiece. Olivia Cornish singled
twice, had an RBI and scored a run while Emma Graddy drilled a two-run single and scored a run. Daisy Flores dropped in an RBI single and scored once while Jillian Meacham had an RBI and crossed the plate two times.
