The Trumann Wildcats led 1-0 after the second inning, but the host Gosnell Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the third. Then, the Pirates rattled off four runs in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth to pull away from the Wildcats to win the 3A-3 conference matchup 12-6, Tuesday.
The Pirates were led offensively by Kyle Robinson (1-4 with two runs scored), Jordan Lewis ( 1-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored), Devin Jones (two runs scored), Garrett Gentry (3-3 with three RBI’s), Waylon Kuykendall (1-5 with a run scored), Aaron Parham (run batted in), Ethan Suthern (1-2 with an RBI and a run scored), Coty Keene (2-2 with two runs scored and an RBI) and Jake Higgins (two runs scored).
Senior lefty Bailey Fields pitched three and two-thirds inning allowing four runs on one hit. He fanned one batter. Freshman Ethan Suthern pitched three and one-thirds innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. Suthern struck out three Wildcat batters.
The host Gosnell Lady Pirates’ bats got hot in the fourth inning as they defeated conference foe the Hoxie Lady Mustangs 15-0, Tuesday afternoon.
GHS scored three runs in the first inning and added two runs in the third inning.
The game would end when sophomore Madison Stockman hit a single in right field which knocked in the run-rule run.
Leading the offense for the Lady Pirates were Alyssa Griffin (3-4 with a run scored), Kristin Sutton (run scored), Emery Cash (2-2 with three runs scored), Cannon Leigh Curtis (3-4 with three runs scored), Kaylee Miller (1-3 with a run scored), Stockman (2-2 with two runs scored), Grace Shepard (2-2 with two runs scored), Callie Robinson (2-3 with a run scored) and Julie Martinez (1-2 with a run scored).
Curtis allowed no runs on three hits, while fanning seven Lady Mustang batters.
